Today kapu-meniya.in : The farmers had to sell in the arhar mandis at a price below Rs 900 to 1,000 per quintal from the support price, but the central government approved the import of 4 lakh tonnes of arhar for FY 2020-21. Apart from this, import of 1.50 lakh tonnes of peas and 1.5 lakh tonnes of moong has also been approved.


Today According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, 4 lakh tonnes of pigeonpeas will be imported by pulses mills in the financial year 2020–21 starting from 1st April. Apart from this, import of 1.50 lakh tonnes of peas has been approved. Peas will be imported only at Kolkata port, and the condition of minimum import duty at the rate of Rs 200 per kg on import of peas will remain. During this period, pulses mills will be able to import 1.50 lakh tonnes of moong.

Today Permission to import pulses will affect current prices

Today central government has fixed the minimum support price of arhar at Rs 5,800 per quintal for the Kharif marketing season 2019-20, while farmers in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh had to sell arhar in mandis at Rs 4,800 to Rs 4,900 per quintal. Pulses trader Chandrashekhar Nadar of Gulbarga mandi in Karnataka said that private pulses have been approved for import of four lakh tonnes of pigeonpea, besides import of about two lakh tonnes of pigeonpea will be done on the official session. The central government has contracted for import of pigeon from Mozambique. The arrival of gram, lentils, peas and moong as well as other rabi pulses will go ahead in domestic markets, so the import permission will affect their prices as well. He said that the prices of gram and lentils etc. have already remained below the support price.

Production estimates of pulses higher

Today According to the second preliminary estimate of the Ministry of Agriculture, the production of pulses in the current Rabi season is expected to increase to 151.1 lakh tonnes, which is more than 139.8 lakh tonnes in the same period of the last Rabi season. The production of pulses is estimated to increase to 230.2 lakh tonnes in the crop season 2019-20, whereas last year, the production of pulses was only 220.8 lakh tonnes. A record 254.2 lakh tonnes of pulses were produced in the country during the harvest season 2017-18.
