Today Kapu-Meniya.in : In the first six months of the current crushing season 2019-20, which started from October 1, 2019, sugar production has decreased by 21.58 per cent to a total production of only 232.74 lakh tonnes as compared to 296.82 lakh tonnes during the previous crushing season.

Last year at this time, crushing was going on in 240 sugar mills in the country. The movement was affected along with the reduction in availability of trucks due to the nationwide lockdown due to corona virus, but due to the intervention of the central government, the situation has improved for the last 4-5 days. ISMA has assured the government that sugar is available in sufficient quantity in the country and the sugar mills will continue crushing in the states where sugar cane is left and sugarcane farmers will not be allowed to face any kind of trouble.
Today Production higher in Uttar Pradesh, less in Maharashtra
Today In the current crushing season in Uttar Pradesh, sugar production has increased to 97.20 lakh tonnes by the end of March, while the state produced only 95.67 lakh tonnes of sugar in the same period of the previous crushing season. So far, only 58.70 lakh tonnes of sugar has been produced in Maharashtra in the current crushing season, whereas 105.16 lakh tonnes of sugar had been produced till this time in the last crushing season. Crushing has stopped in 118 sugar mills of the state and currently crushing is going on in only 28 mills.
Today Decreased sugar production in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat
Today Sugar production in the current crushing season in Karnataka has come down to 33.50 lakh tonnes till the end of March, while the state had produced 43.18 lakh tonnes of sugar in the same period of the previous crushing season. Sugar production in Tamil Nadu has been 4.50 lakh tonnes in the current crushing season, which is lower than last year's 6.33 lakh tonnes. Gujarat had produced 10.64 lakh tonnes of sugar by this time last year, while in the current crushing season only 8.50 lakh tonnes have been produced. Similarly, the production of sugar in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has come down to 4.10 lakh tonne, which is less than last year's 7.25 lakh tonne.
Today Demand in petrol is low due to lockdown, which affects ethanol offtake
Today Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha and Rajasthan in other states have produced 26.24 lakh tonnes of sugar by the end of March. According to ISMA, sugar mills are facing problems of off-take of ethanol as there is a reduction in demand in petrol due to lockdown across the country.
