Today Kapu-Meniya.in : The 21 days of lockdown going on across the country due to Corona virus has affected the arrival of fruits and vegetables in the mandis. This has reduced the arrival of fruits by 75 to 80 percent, while the arrival of vegetables has also decreased by 50 to 60 percent.

Today Azadpur fruit and vegetable market of Delhi is the largest market in Asia. Due to the lockdown, the arrival of fruits in the mandi has reduced to only 20 to 25 percent. Mandi fruit trader Tejinder Singh told Outlook that due to the lockdown, the street vendors are not selling the fruits on the track, while small mandis of neighboring states are also getting less, so traders are also asking for less. They told that fruits are spoiled if not sold for a day or two. He said that the arrival of bananas has come down to 30 to 35 percent, 25 to 30 percent of grapes, 15 to 20 percent of pomegranate and 20 to 25 percent of apples. Due to the lockdown, where the fruits and vegetables of the farmers are not able to sell, the consumers have to buy at a higher price due to increased transportation costs.

Today Fruit trader MR Kripalani said that the biggest impact of the lockdown has been on the arrival of fruits. Five to seven trains of oranges remain in the mandi, while 35 to 40 trucks were arriving before the lockdown. In this way, grapes are being discarded for one day. There is no lifting of mandis due to less buyers of fruits. Apples are coming from cold storage in the mandi while pomegranate is coming from Gujarat and Rajasthan, bananas from Andhra Pradesh and grapes from Maharashtra and oranges from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The arrival of mangoes also started increasing from South India, but now its arrival has also reduced considerably.

Today Potato and Onion Merchant Association (POMA) General Secretary Rajendra Sharma said that the arrival of vegetables in the mandi has reduced by 50 to 60 percent due to the lockdown. He said that the arrival of vegetables like peas, bitter gourd, lady's finger and capsicum coming from Disavari mandis has reduced considerably. Incoming of Gheeya, Petha, Bengan and Cabbage is getting more than Delhi NCR, hence the sales of these are also increasing. He informed that tomato price in the mandi was Rs 300 to 350 per 25 kg, while other green vegetables were being sold for Rs 10 to 30 per kg.

Today Heavy fall in potato and onion arrivals

Today Vegetable trader Balbir Singh Bhalla said that 40 to 45 motors and onion arrivals of 18 to 20 motors remained in the potato arrival market, whereas 70 to 80 motor potatoes and 50 to 60 motor onions were coming before the lockdown. He told that the hotel is closed, along with street hawkers, vegetables are not being sold on the track. Therefore, traders are also asking for less. Vegetable trader Javed of Okhla Mandi said that there has been a huge reduction in the arrival of vegetables in the market due to the lockdown. Due to the lockdown, vegetables are not lifting, hence traders are also asking for less.
