Today Kapu-Meniya.in : 21 days of lockdown is going on due to Corona virus which is spread across the country, due to which the mandis are closed all over the country. In such a situation, this time the Punjab government is preparing to go to the villages to buy wheat during the Rabi season to prevent congestion in the mandis. Preference will be given to those villages which are located at a distance of 1-2 km from the mandis.
Today Chief Minister of the state talked to the officials while reviewing the situation through video conferencing with the officials of agriculture and food departments. Where did he find a way to procure wheat by reaching farmers in villages. The Chief Minister said that he is ready to accept the proposal given by the Chief Secretary, the Chief Secretary has advised to go to the farmers' village and the state government is working extensively in this regard.
Today state government has postponed wheat procurement for 15 days. Generally, procurement of wheat from the state starts from April 1, but this time the procurement is likely to start from April 15. The Chief Minister asked the Chief Secretary of the state to prepare a detailed report so that a final decision in this regard can be taken in the next few days.
Today Chief Secretary has suggested to purchase from the village.
Today Chief Secretary suggested that around 50 per cent of the villages in the state are inundated with mandis and a small number of curfew passes may be issued to the farmers there for a fixed period of time to visit the mandi. He suggests sending officers for purchase to stable villages at a distance from the mandis. He also said that the agents who are currently managing crops in the mandis, should be entrusted with the task of doing this work in these villages.
Today Purchase arrangements will be reviewed in the cabinet meeting.
Today Chief Minister ordered increase in the number of procurement centers as well as extension in the period of procurement so as to ensure that the crowd of farmers does not gather in the mandis. He said that these arrangements will be reviewed again during the cabinet meeting.
